The Downtowners’ City Center Newsletter July 1, 2010 What You Will Find… □ Urban Harvest Begins □ Street Fair 2010 □ Downtown Updates □ Upcoming Events □ Association News Urban Harvest Starts Sixth Season Popular downtown market begins July 8… The sixth annual Urban Harvest farmer’s market and vendor event will begin July 8 in downtown Bismarck. Each Thursday for 6 weeks, local produce, arts, crafts, and food vendors gather at the corner of 4th Street and Broadway to sell their fares. There will be other activities to participate in such as: wellness hour, garden talk, kid’s hour, aerobic activities, cooking demos, and much more! Each Thursday, the organizers also bring in local bands and musicians. Headlining the opening night will be The Midnight Noise Orchestra. Stop by and have lunch, peruse booths, and by some locally grown produce. Urban Harvest begins at 10:00am each day and wraps the night up with music ending around 9pm. For a complete schedule, vendor requests, or more information, visit: www.bismarckurbanharvest.org. -------------------------------------------------- The Downtowners’ Street Fair 2010 The abriged history of Street Fair… It’s already that time to start dreaming about turkey legs, funnel cake, funky crafts, and beautiful art for the 2010 Downtowner’s Street Fair. Here are some fast facts that about the long standing community event: -Street Fair is currently in its 37th Annual Year. -The event was long known as the vendor and food portion of what was once Folkfest. Folkfest encompassed parades, the downtown vendor show, and weeks worth of festivities. -The Downtowners' have always hosted the vendor and food show portion of the fall event. -The 2 day Street Fair average between 25,000-30,000 patrons. -There are approximately 180 food, arts, and craft vendors at Street Fair. -The event is spread over 7 downtown city blocks. -The Downtowners', first established in 1906, is a 501c6 non-profit business association that promotes the downtown area and works to create a vital city center for its members and the entire community. -Street Fair is a fundraiser for the Downtowners' non-profit. Be a sponsor of this annual event and receive advertising, get your message in front of 25,000+patrons, and help us continue to keep this great event going. Phone: 701-223-1958 Email: getit@downtownbismarck.com ------------------------------------------------- Downtown updates Bridal ‘n More was recently approved by the Bismarck City Commission for their Renaissance Zone Project on 4th Street in the Malloy Building. Commissioner Seminary was the only no vote. The Renaissance Zone Authority recommended approval of the project early last month. The two newly elected Bismarck City Commissioners were sworn in June 22 at the City/County building, the new commissioners are Josh Askvig and Brenda Smith. Also sworn in for his third term was re-elected Mayor John Warford. Help us congratulate these young professionals in our organization! □ Shop Walks will be starting at the end of July! Stay informed with the newsletters throughout this month. □ As the TIF lawsuit continues to linger, the person who cleaned up around Downtown could not be hired this year. We are asking everyone to take a few minutes to clean up any trash, branches, and other debris around your organization. Keeping our city center beautiful is essential to its success.
