E-Dart Newsletter March 25th, 2010 What You Will Find… • Street Fair, a History • Rip-Roarin’ Ribfest 2010 and the PBR • Street Fair early registration for 2010 • Downtown Updates • Upcoming Events • Association News Street Fair, a History The origins of this long time community event… Originally created in 1973 as "Customer Appreciation Days," the Downtowners Street Fair evolved into a tried and true community attraction hosted by the DBA each fall. The Street Fair has grown considerably since its conception, attracting hundreds of exhibitors from across the United States. During Folkfest weeks, once sponsored annually by the Bismarck Mandan Chamber of Commerce, Street Fair was one of the premiere events. Through the years, Street Fair has seen changes and evolved into what it is today - a community event, which visitors plan a year in advance to attend. Street Fair attracts over 25,000 visitors each year. The Downtowners continues to promote Street Fair and its artists, crafters and food vendors and also coordinates special activities during the weekend such as the Monster Mural, the Beer Garden and the like. Now in its 37th year, Street Fair remains an annual staple of long time community events. The DBA thanks everyone for their continued support. ------------------------------- The Downtowners' 2010 Rip-Roaring Ribfest…It’s a mouthful! Pork and Beef will meat at the Bismarck Civic Center… The Downtowners are excited to announce that there will be two fantastic events at the Civic Center June 17-19! Obviously Ribfest 2010 (yum) AND Professional Bull Riders will be in the arena Friday and Saturday nights! Make a weekend of it! Applications must be post marked by April 24th to qualify for early registration. Please contact the Downtowners’ office if you haven’t received your application and would like to participate. Phone: 701-223-1958 Email: getit@downtownbismarck.com --------------------------------------- Downtown updates DBA Artwork Proposal, BCC Special Meeting… Downtown Artwork Project Proposal Update: The Downtown Business Assoc. appeared before the Bismarck City Commission at the March 9th 2010 meeting to present the Downtown Artwork Proposal. After a short exchange, the BCC requested staff gain more info/clarification on the project and report back to the commission at a future meeting. The Downtown Artwork Project Proposal hopes to hang large-scale artwork on the parking ramp at 3rd & Main. City Commission Special Meeting: The Bismarck City Commission held a special meeting Thursday, March 18 to discuss seeking the attorney general’s opinion on usage of TIF Funds for certain downtown projects. The city attorney believes the city may use the funds but said there is nothing wrong with asking for an opinion.
