This is an old and historic block in downtown Bismarck. Some of the oldest surviving buildings are located there, frequented by famous early residents of the city like Ed Patterson. One such space that held some of early Bismarck’s most beautiful galas is cleverly tucked away above Dakota Stage. The Silver Ballroom was built around 1905 and represented the fashionable and exclusive society in Bismarck’s early boom times. The name came from the silver tin printed ceiling. A large room, measuring a few thousand square feet, the center Silver Ballroom’s majestic space is a huge dome, surrounded by many lights. Original hardwood floors, the grandiose dome, and a stage from the past on the far wall, makes the space breath taking. Standing in the Silver Ballroom instantly connects you with Bismarck’s past. Check out our Facebook page photos for more looks at the Silver Ballroom today. The DBA and many of its Facebook fans would love to see the space restored! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Downtown-Business-Association-of-Bismarck/189268697969?ref=ts ------------------------- The Downtowners' 2010 Rip-Roaring Ribfest…It’s a mouthful! The BCC asked staff to review the proposal and report findings at a future meeting. The Downtown Artwork Project Proposal hopes to hang large-scale artwork on the parking ramp at 3rd & Main. The project was developed by the Downtowners Betterment Committee. The motion carried 5-0. Two more throw their hat in and run for City Commission: Josh Askvig and Brenda Tschider Smith have formally announced they are running for Bismarck City Commission. The election will be in June of 2010. Urban Renewal Plan Update: The Bismarck City Commission passed revisions to its urban renewal policy. These revisions include adopting a specific improvement plan to provide for the construction of a parking ramp on 6th Street between Thayer Avenue and Broadway Avenue and update language and projects and amend the boundaries of the Urban Renewal Plan area to include complete street rights-of-way on the area perimeter. Motions carried 4-0 with Commissioner Schwab abstaining due to a conflict and 4-1 with Commission Schwab voting no respectively. UND Family Medicine – 8th Street Vacation: The BCC unanimously voted to allow the vacating of 8th Street between Thayer and Rosser Avenues. This move allows UND Family Medicine to build a new structure there and use the vacated street as room for parking.
